Keenserts® Inserts and Studs 

Keenserts® inserts and studs are designed to provide high resistance to torque-out and pull-out loads. Pre-assembled keys are driven down through the threads of the parent material to mechanically lock the fasteners into place. The inserts are available with free running threads or with various types of locking devices including deformed threads, Vespel™ insert and beam lock. The studs provide a nut-end thread designed to transfer high axial loads into weak base materials. The stud or keyed end is installed into the parent material, thus eliminating the need for removing or replacing a bolt.

Kelox® Inserts and Studs 

Kelox® inserts and studs are high performance threaded products that typically require smaller diameter installation holes than other solid bushing inserts and studs. This translates into overall reduced boss sizes and weight savings. The Kelox® fasteners incorporate a pair of keys joined by an integral ring that facilitates the driving of the keys into the structure.

Ring Locked Inserts and Studs 

Ring locked inserts and studs have superior torsional resistance in both hard and soft parent materials. Inserts are available with locking and non-locking threads.

Slimsert™ Inserts 

Slimsert™ inserts have a thin cross section, which is ideal for installation into applications requiring minimum boss configurations. This allows for reduced casting weight while adding strength. The upper end of the insert is swaged into the counterbore wall of the parent material and locks it into place.

Delron® Sandwich Panel Inserts 

Delron® inserts are used primarily to provide a hard mounting point in sandwich structure panels. Structural type inserts offer maximum shear and column strength by gripping and supporting the face sheets from within the core area of the sandwich panel. Potted in inserts are mounted through a single hole in the panel and resist shear and tension through a knurled flange on the body where potting compound flows.

Solid Threaded Inserts 

Keysert® inserts are solid, one-piece, key-locking inserts used to repair damaged threads or for use in original equipment. The Keysert® locking keys provide a positive mechanical lock which prevents rotation due to vibration or torsion. Keysert® inserts are available in carbon or stainless steel, both in inch and metric series. Avdel threaded inserts and installation tools provide a quick, reliable, and low cost system of inserting high quality, load bearing threads in thin gauge materials. Avdel threaded inserts offer many benefits over nuts and bolts, weld nuts, self-tapping screws and pressed inserts.

Compression Limiters 

Compression limiters are designed for applications where the tightening load of the bolt or screw will compress, crack, or otherwise damage the plastic component.

Compression limiters are non-threaded bushings made of various materials. They are designed with various knurl configurations and undercuts in order to meet the strength requirements of the specific application.

Expansion Inserts

Expansion inserts are two-piece units consisting of a threaded insert and a captivated spreader plate. When the spreader plate is depressed, the knurled portion of the insert expands and anchors the inset in the hole. Offering a simple, press in application, and the versatility to be used in all plastics.

Heat/Ultrasonic Installation for Plastics

Heat installation involves positioning the insert into the molded or drilled hole. A heated tip is then inserted into the inside diameter of the threaded insert. Localized melting begins to take place and with the downward pressure, the insert begins install. Plastic flows into the varying undercuts and knurls. Benefits of thermal installation include: installation of multiple inserts at a given time, ability to install inserts beyond 1/4”, and superior strength assemblies.

Ultrasonic installation involves positioning the insert into a molded or drilled hole. An ultrasonic horn then contacts the insert and begins to vibrate the insert. This vibration creates frictional heat which melts the plastic allowing the horn to lower the insert into position. Once installed to the appropriate depth, the cycle is repeated for the next insert.

Straight Holes

Ideal for use with plastic, threaded inserts from Spiralock provide superior torsional and pullout properties. Our Ultrasonic Threaded Inserts for Straight Holes allow for a self-aligning lead-in that provides for accurate alignment prior to installation. Ultrasonic installations of these inserts offer higher torsional pull out properties than cold press-fit methods. High frequency vibrations generate frictional heat at the metal to plastic interface, the plastic melts slightly and flows into the knurled serrations, barbs, and undercuts. The molten plastic will then re-solidify leaving the insert securely fit in place.

Spiralock Ultrasonic Threaded Inserts for Tapered Holes

The Ultrasonic Threaded Insert for Tapered Holes is installed with the use of high frequency vibrations generating frictional heat at the metal to plastic interface. Spiralock Made To Order Fasteners

New Spiralock Micro Threaded Inserts for plastics introduce ideal fastener solutions to attach components in compact electronic assemblies. Installation is achieved by pressing the insert into a mounting hole using either ultrasonic insertion equipment or a thermal press. Dodge Ultrasert I

The Ultrasert I is a fluted brass insert designed for ultrasonic or heat installation into thermo plastics. The Ultrasert I has a gradual external taper that allows for accurate positioning of the insert in the receiving hole, ensuring proper alignment prior to installation. The tapered design optimizes the flow of plastic at the insert point permitting a smooth, rapid installation. Vertical flutes provided resistance to rotation and stepped inclined ribs provide tensile strength. Ultraserts can be installed using ultrasonic equipment or thermal installation equipment. Thermal equipment can be as simple as a soldering iron held by hand or mounded in an arbor or drill press.

Dodge Ultrasert II

There’s a reason why the Dodge Ultrasert II is the most widely used insert in the plastics industry today. This reliable fastener offers high-performance strength values along with economic advantages. Ultrasert II brass inserts are designed for Ultrasonic or heat installation into thermo plastics and structural foam materials. The external configuration features parallel diagonal knurls for optimum torque resistance and undercuts for superior tensile strength. The tapered design allows for rapid and accurate positioning of the insert prior to installation.

Dodge Ultrasert III

The Dodge Ultrasert III has a double-ended design which eliminates orientation of the insert and serves to greatly simply feeding in automated assembly processes. This symmetrical brass insert is designed for high-volume production in ultrasonic, heat, or molded in installations. Its external configuration features opposing diagonal knurls that provide torque resistance and undercuts for tensile strength. Lead-in pilots provide rapid and accurate positioning of the insert prior to installation.

Dodge Ultrasert IV Flanged

The Dodge Ultrasert IV is a parallel-sided brass insert designed for ultrasonic or heat installation into thermo plastics or structural foam materials. Opposing diagonal knurls provide excellent torque resistance, and undercuts deliver tensile strength. Designed to be installed into straight holes. Lead-in pilot at the end of the insert accurately positions insert prior to installation.

Dodge Ultraseal Pipe Thread Inserts

Get a pressure tight seal while still attaining high tensile and torque loads thanks to the unique anchoring arrangement of Dodge Ultraseal. Usually, when an insert is installed ultrasonically or with heat into plastic, the difference in cooling rates of the metal and plastic create a “stress relief zone” or microscopic void between the insert external geometry and the plastic. While this is beneficial in reducing stress between the two materials, it can pose challenges to those applications requiring a leak-proof interface between the insert and the plastic. Our Ultraseal insert addresses this situation. A pressure-tight seal is possible thanks to our unique O-Ring feature. It withstands a 600°F installation temperature and will function at operating temperatures up to 400°F. When installed into the recommended hole size, it offers a high-performance seal between the plastic and the insert. Ultraseal pipe thread inserts provide the high-performance strength values of molded-in inserts while retaining all the economic advantages of insert installation after molding. Post molding reduces open press time, eliminates scrapped parts or damaged molds from improperly placed inserts, and allows for simpler and lost costly molds. Designed with a taper to permit easy installation and self-alignment, Ultraseal inserts are made of brass allowing continuous assembly and disassembly of mating parts without damaging threads.

Dodge Taper Tuff Inserts

Inserts are uniquely designed for heat installation into thermoplastic materials. Ideal for use in automotive, computer, and telecom applications. The Taper Tuff tapered style allows for easy installation.

High Strength Hexsert

The High Strength Hexsert threaded insert provides a clamp force comparable to weld nuts and clinch nuts in high torque applications. The hexagonal shape and large flange gives the High Strength Hexsert exceptional torque-to-turn strength in thin sheet materials while having safeguards against over-tightening which can lead to thread stripping and the need for expensive rework. If excessive torque is applied, the screw shank fails before the insert as protection from overtightening.

Mold-in Installation Inserts

While the trend is to install inserts into thermoplastics by post mold, some highly filled plastics (above 35% fill) will benefit from a mold-in insert design.

Spiralock Molded Blind Threaded Inserts

These inserts are press-fit into a drilled or molded hole after the molding process has been completed. The process of press-fitting allows inserts to be installed without the use of heat or ultrasonics. This is accomplished by placing the insert into the appropriate hole size and driving it into place with a simple press. The “barbed” configuration of these inserts displaces the plastic as it travels into the hole. The plastic then springs back into the grooves between barbs, providing pull-out resistance.

Spiralock Molded Thru-Hole Threaded Inserts

These inserts are designed to have plastic molded around them in the mold cavity. This process involves the placement of “core pins” into the minor diameter of the inserts prior to molding the plastic. Once the molding operation is complete, the “core pins” are removed leaving the insert encapsulated into the plastic. The mold-in method offers better adhesion of plastic to the insert thereby providing higher torsional and pull out properties than most secondary operations.

Dodge Ultra Mold Inserts

Ultra-Mold is for applications where a molded-in design is more economical than post molding. Ultra-Mold is a unique two-piece concept that allows full and complete threads throughout the entire length of the insert. No added material required for imperfect threads and drill point. Featuring a controlled minor diameter and innovative counterbore to insure accurate positioning and easy bolt during final assembly, this insert provides optimum strength in space and weight saving design.

Dodge Symmetrical Miniature Inserts

The trend in electronics is toward small, light items. Our unique line of miniature inserts is designed for these applications. Used extensively in the smartphone industry to mate the two plastic outings together, resulting in a structural assembly with long service life. Miniature inserts are available in two styles: Symmetrical and Flanged. Symmetrical Miniature inserts are designed for high volume production utilizing small screws. These inserts can be loaded into an automatic feeding system, without the need for special orientation, which produces higher production and lower overall cost. On Flanged Miniature inserts a lead-in pilot at the front end of the insert accurately positions the insert prior to installation. Opposing diagonal knurls provide excellent torque resistance and undercut for tensile strength. The added flange provides a larger bearing surface which is advantageous in weaker plastics.

Nutsert/TSN

The Avdel Thin Sheet Nutsert is a blind threaded insert designed to provide load bearing threads in thin sheet materials. The large flange version gives the Thin Sheet Nutsert rivet nut a greater load bearing surface whilst a closed end prevents the ingress of dirt and fluids into the thread and electrical circuits.

Wire Threaded Inserts

Wire thread inserts are incorporated into softer metallic materials to give them steel like thread performance. This has enabled industries to use lighter weight materials such as aluminum without having to give up thread strength of their fasteners. Wire thread inserts are helically coiled fastening devices that provide permanent, wear-resistant screw threads that exceed the strength of most parent material; the inserts are designed to protect tapped holes against failures due to striping, seizing, corrosion, and wear.

Heli-coil Tanged Screw Thread Inserts

There are two styles of Heli-Coil tanged screw threaded inserts. The standard or “Free Running” tanged insert provides a smooth free-running thread, while the “Screw-Locking” tanged insert provides self-locking torque on the male member by a series of “chords” on one or more of the insert coils.

Free-Running tanged screw thread inserts are greater in diameter than the tapped hole into which they are installed. In the assembly operation, the torque applied to the tang reduces the diameter of the leading coil and it permits it to enter the tapped thread. When the torque or rotation is stopped, the coils expand with a spring-like action, anchoring the insert permanently in place against the tapped hole.

Screw-Locking tanged screw thread inserts provide an exclusive, resilient, internal locking thread that grips the bolt and prevents it from loosening under vibration or impact. Screw-lock inserts permit repeated assembly and disassembly yet will not relax their grip on the screw even in tough metals such as cast iron, alloy steel, titanium, etc.

Heli-coil Tangless Screw Thread Inserts

Tangless threaded inserts provide permanent, wear-resistant screw threads that completely eliminate the need for tang break-off and retrieval. There are two styles of Heli-Coil tangless inserts. “Free-Running” tangless inserts provide a smooth free-running thread. The “Screw-Locking” tangless insert provides self-locking torque on the male member by a series of “chords” on one or more of the insert coils. With tangless inserts no loose tangs are left behind, and they are the solution when foreign object debris (FOD) cannot be presented in critical applications. They eliminate the need for tang break-off and tang retrieval and can be easily adjusted or removed after installation.

Heli-coil 8-Pitch Screw Thread Inserts

Heli-Coil 8-Pitch inserts are a unique series of screw thread inserts designed for 8-pitch thread holes. Compared with other methods, thread repair with Heli-Coil 8-Pitch inserts is fast and economical, providing better-than-original threads and saving expensive parts with a minimum of downtime. Heli-Coil 8-Pitch inserts can be used in existing bosses and flanges where repairs are impossible with other types of inserts or solid bushings. By using Heli-Coil 8-Pitch inserts you can save valuable parts that would otherwise become scrap.

Heli-coil Oversize & Twinsert Screw Thread Inserts

Two types of Heli-Coil thread repair kits are available for correcting tapping errors to STI and standard tapped holes. Oversize inserts and Twinserts allow use of the original bolt size after the repair has been made.

Oversize inserts are primarily used to correct Heli-Coil insert assemblies that gage oversize due to tapping errors. The effective correction is achieved through a larger wire cross section.

Twinserts offer greater correction to oversize tapping errors because of the large diameter that results from installing one insert inside another. This larger diameter allows repair of stripped STI holes as well as off-center STI and standard tapped holes. Holes tapped with the incorrect diameter and/or pitch can also be repaired

Heli-coil Pipe Thread Inserts

Heli-Coil pipe thread inserts are precision-formed screw thread coils of 18-8 stainless steel wire, cold-rolled into a sharp crest diamond-shaped cross section having a tensile strength in excess of 20 000 psi and a smooth surface of 8-16 micro inches.

The outside of the coil has knife-like threads that tap themselves in to give maximum penetration into the wood fibers yet leave thick sections of wood between the threads for maximum strength. This unique fastener opens more possibilities for flexibility in the design and manufacture of furniture and other wood products. Our self-tapping inserts afford an unprecedented combination of thread wear protection and greatly improved joint strength in both face and end-grain installations.

Heli-coil Spark Plug Screw Thread Inserts

Designed and manufactured by Heli-Coil to provide specific and unique benefits to high-temperature, high-performance spark plug applications. Heli-Coil spark plug screw thread inserts are manufactured from 18-8 round stainless steel wire formed into a 60° diamond-shaped wire. This cold-worked wire, which has a tensile strength of 200 000 PSI, is wound into a helical coil with a driving tang and notch to remove the tang after the insert is screwed into the Heli-Coil tapped hole. In its free state, the insert is larger in diameter than the tapped hole. Once installed, the insert assumes the configuration of the tapped hole. The resulting outward spring-like action anchors the insert in place. The Heli-Coil spark plug insert becomes an integral part of the cylinder head, providing high-strength threads which exceed in surface smoothness, hardness, and accuracy, any threads tapped in any material.

Heli-coil Primer Free Coated Inserts

Primer-Free inserts are designed for use in applications where galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals is a concern. The proprietary Primer Free coating not only protects the base material and provides excellent lubricity, but more importantly, eliminates the need for liquid chromate primers. With Primer-Free coated inserts, the inserts are always evenly coated, providing more accurate bolt torques. When utilizing Primer Free inserts, installation time is reduced significantly and total in-place cost is decreased dramatically.

Spiralock Wire Thread Inserts

Spiralock wire thread inserts are helically coiled fastening devices that provide permanent, wear-resistant screw threads that exceed the strength of most parent material; the inserts are designed to protect tapped holes against failures due to stripping, seizing, corrosion, and wear. Spiralock inserts are unlike any other wire thread insert for the fact that our inner diameter wire geometry incorporates our 30° wedge ramp thread form design. Our wire thread inserts are available in two styles: tanged and Drive Notch, engineered with no tang. The AVK A-H Series Threaded Insert features a radius corner hex body. When installed into a corresponding hex hole, the radius corners of the A-H Series Insert expand and fill the hole corners providing exceptional resistance to spinning in the panel. The A-H Series is designed to be used with Grade 5 or Metric Class 8.8/9.8 mating screws.

These threaded inserts have many design benefits including:

• Exceptional resistance to spinning in the panel is achieved as the A-H Series’ hex body expands, filling the hole.

The AVK A-R Series Threaded Inserts are designed for use in applications with thin gauge metal and plastics where it is required to have an increase in pull out resistance. The A-R Series features a PreSetTM slotted body design that when installed folds into four segments gripping the backside of the parent material. This design feature allows the A-R Series to be installed into single, variable, or multiple thickness materials. These threaded inserts have many design benefits including:

• Installs using torque stall type tooling due to the slightly expanded slotted body design. This is important when working with plastics that vary in thickness. No adjustment of the tool is necessary when installing the part into variable thickness materials.

A-H Series Sealed Head Threaded Hex Insert

The A-H Series Sealed Head Insert provides all the features of the standard A-H Series Insert plus the addition of a PVC foam seal that is bonded to the underside head of the insert. This feature provides a weather resistant seal that will withstand 50 PSI – 3.4 bars of pressure.

A-S Series Captive Threaded Insert

The A-S Series Stud offers a unique design advantage in that once installed, a threaded stud is left protruding from the workpiece. Component parts can be located on the stud until final assembly is accomplished with a mating nut. The A-S Series is an ideal alternative to clinch or weld studs.

Design Benefits include:

• Protruding stud allows component parts to be located on the stud until final assembly is accomplished with a mating nut.

• Exceptional torque strength is achieved as the stud’s knurled body expands, filling the hole

• Eliminate paint masking procedures as required with weld or clinch studs. The A-S Series Stud can be installed after painting.

A-T Series Knurled Threaded Insert

The A-T series Insert is unique in that it can be installed into most any material above .030/,76mm in thickness. As the A-T Series is installed, the threaded portion is completely swaged 360° into the sleeve portion and the hole. This permits the A-T Series to be used with Grade 8/Metric 12.9 mating screws.

• Reduced overall length of the installed A-T Series Insert allows it to be used in limited clearance applications.

A-W Series Knurled Threaded Insert

The A-W Series Insert can be installed into most any material softer than itself that is thicker than .062/1,57. The A-W Series provides exceptional shear strength and pull out in fiberglass and plywoods. The brass A-W Series Insert is particularly useful for the fiberglass boat industry. The A-W Series Insert is installed using lightweight, handheld pneumatic tools that can be located at any position in your product’s assembly sequence. The A-W Series Insert can be installed either prior to or after finish.

A-O Series Threaded Insert

The A-O Series Insert features a reduced profile head design which is similar to the superior A-K Series Insert. It also has a smaller body diameter than the A-K Series Insert. The A-O Series Insert can be specified when the application design parameters require a smaller hole or closer hole to edge tolerances.

R-N Series Rivet Nut Threaded Insert

The R-N Series Rivet Nut features a heavy duty head profile and increased wall thickness in the collapse area. This makes the R-N Series ideal for leg leveling applications. The R-N Series Rivet Nuts are manufactured using state-of-the art cold forming technology. This provides very precise tolerances. All surfaces of the R-N Series are formed, not machined. This provides excellent quality. The internal thread of the R-N Series Rivet Nut is roll formed not machined. This provides excellent thread strength.
